Dr. Kohrt was born and raised in Flensburg, Germany. He received his high school diploma in Great Britain and was a temporary soldier in the German Navy. After studying mathematics and computer science in Kiel, Germany, he worked at Siemens for 25 years in Munich. An avid traveler, he worked abroad both in the U.S. and the U.K.



Residing in Eckernförde, Germany since 2009, he has been an active family researcher for 14 years. He is a member of the following organizations:

Postwar in No Man's Land

Katharina Matro PhotoDr. Matro is a German native and spent countless hours in German and Polish archives, historical institutions, museums and universities in Bayreuth, Sczcezin and Warsaw doing research for her Postwar in No Man's Land PhD dissertation. She consulted numerous sources from the Kreise Greifenberg and Regenwalde because they were readily available. Other Hinterpommern areas are often cited. Her dissertation won the prestigious 2016 Fritz Stern Dissertation Prize from the George Washington Institute in Washington, D.C, for the best doctoral dissertation on a topic in German history written at a North American university.

Dr. Matro graduated summa cum laude from Amherst College, holds an MA from the Johns Hopkins School of Advanced Studies, and a PhD in central European history from Stanford University. Currently, Dr. Matro is a history and sociology teacher at a Montgomery County Maryland public high school. She is fluent in 3 languages.
